North Node - Hitch Your Wagon to This-Here Star

I love the North Node. There is an inherent sweetness to North Node astrology. To me, it exists to show us our way up and out of darkness. The South Node (opposite North Node in every chart) shows us where we have already been, what we are already experts at, and in some ways you could call this "home" because it is so ingrained in us, so familiar. Yet, I like to think of the South Node as the solid launching point from the last life or experiences we already have under our belt while the North Node is like our homing beacon, the lighthouse in the dark night of the soul that shows us how we need to aim ourselves in order to get to the next level. The South Node has already manifested; the North Node is a light fairy that leads us toward and helps us become our higher selves, develop our higher soul vibrations into future material form. It is our "soul goal." Because of this, I tend to look at the positive traits of the planet and house that the North Node is located in (although there are positives and negatives to everything). If we are talking about reaching higher, forward, upwards then naturally we are going to have to aim for the positives in order to evolve and grow spiritually to the next level of being. The North Node shows us the way.

Many times the North Node shows us what we have to feel like instead of be or have. My North Node is in Pisces, in the 3rd house of communication, siblings, teaching and learning. That means my South Node is in Virgo (always opposite) in the 9th house of publications, travel, foreign lands, higher education, religious and spiritual studies. I also happen to have a stellium in the 9th house involving the Sun (Libra, conjunct MC) conjunct Pluto (late Virgo), Mercury and Mars. My dark moon Lilith is conjunct my South Node in the 9th house. I am a veritable smart ass when it comes to higher education, religious and spiritual studies, and foreign anything. I have a firm grasp (Pluto) on my mind (Mercury), my actions (Mars) and my self (Sun) in general. And yet, my North Node in Pisces wants me to let go of all that, let go of the need to emphasize what I already have so much of. It wants me to let go, to trust, to surrender, to dream, to imagine, to feel rather than to know, to be rather than to have or possess, and to reach higher in service. It does not ask or expect me to negate or deny my 9th house strengths, but rather to build on them. I need to use them, they are part of who I am, who I have come this far to be. But now it is time for me to go beyond (Pisces) the material world (Virgo) and share what I have learned (3rd house). I don't know how to do this, not really. Because I am naturally a bookish person and more inclined to learn obsessively (9th house Pluto), it is hard for me to believe (Pisces) in myself and my ability to teach (3rd house) anyone anything. And yet, I have this sweet North Node beacon, there to show me that this is the way. This is what I must do if I want to level up this time around, or else I will just come back again for more of the same 9th house stuff. With such a packed 9th house, I think I have spent enough time coming back for more of the same stuff - I've amassed quite a collection there. Time to level up. This is what the North Node is there to show us: what we need to do, what we need to learn, to incorporate into our lives, to aim for, to inspire us to move up to the next level. Pisces's positive, higher calling traits are unconditional love, soul love, merging the soul with the Universe, Divine Love, divinity, surrender, altruism, helping others, selflessness, poetry, beauty, ethereal beauty, the sea, photography, film, dreams, imagination, inspiration. I have to channel this into a 3rd house expression, which means I have to write, teach, express, share, and otherwise communicate about my Pisces stuff in a way that lifts me (North Node) and others (3rd house) higher. On and up!

  1. Hitch your wagon to a star. That is the oft quoted advice of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Hitch your wagon to a star. That was the philosopher's way of saying that all of us need high ideals, a commanding sense of purpose, great ambitions. On the twelfth day after Christmas, Christians around the world celebrate the feast of Epiphany. We remember that thousands of years ago those mysterious strangers were heading toward Bethlehem. As everyone knows, they came to Bethlehem following yonder star.
